Good with the bad
Tampa Bay Tech coach Jason Gordon has plenty to be excited about with his baseball team.
There's the pitching of senior Tyrone Miller. The Titans ace has a 1.65 ERA and has struck out 47 batters in 29 2/3 innings. Then there's SS Tyler Lawson, who has driven in seven runs on 10 hits and has scored eight times. Jaylin Earl's .394 batting average and nine RBIs is a team-best.
There's also a solid group of leaders.
"This is probably the best group I've had in the four years I've been here," Gordon said. "Not the most talented group, but the hardest-working group of guys that want to come out, work hard in practice every day and strive to do better."
He's also been pleasantly surprised by freshman Kristian Bueno (.273, nine hits, four RBIs).
The one thing Gordon wants to see improved is the run support Miller receives while on the mound. The Titans (3-10) have reached the five-run mark only three times.
Tonight they're looking to end a seven-game slide when they host Blake. Prior to that losing streak, Tampa Bay Tech beat Durant (7-5), East Bay (4-1) and Leto (9-5) in consecutive games.
